HOW TO GET THERE
Using the MTR, get off at Causeway Bay station and take Exit D2. You’ll find yourself inside SOGO Mall. BAKE will be situated at basement 2. Turn right near the escalator going down. You’ll see BAKE’s eye-catching yellow and gray modern design on your right. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see rows of their freshly baked cheese tarts displayed on the glass window.
Ovens are on display so you can see how they bake their cheese tarts. You can’t really see how they make them from scratch because when we went there, the cheese tarts were already ready on the refrigerator and were just waiting to be placed in the oven. Seats are not available but that’s not a problem. These babies get finished before you even get to say, “These are mine!” It’s like now you see them, now you don’t. Magic!
The first time we went there, a female took our orders. She was kind of snobbish. Second time we went there, a guy was manning the cashier. He was super friendly but not overly doing it. The staff knows how to speak English so don’t worry. You’ll understand each other. They were very efficient. There were about three of them. One bakes the tarts, another takes the orders, and the last readies the orders. Perfect harmony. We got our tarts hot and fresh in just a matter of seconds. In other words, we were happy whomever the cashier as long as we got our BAKE CHEESE TARTS. 😀
I’ll try to describe the cheese tarts in great detail so you’ll see what I mean when I say, BAKE has THE best cheese tarts I have ever eaten.
BAKE cheese tarts originated from Hokkaido and believe it or not, the tarts before were sold to customers chilled but thank goodness for mistakes. They ended up selling warm cheese tarts and were astounded when people started lining up; just like how we lined up.
You can order by piece or by box. There are 6 pieces in a box. Ask the staff for browner cheese tarts. These taste better than the whiter ones. Remember, it’s not burnt but perfectly baked. When the cashier finally hands you your cheese tart, you can feel its warm, thick crust through the wax paper. Taking your first bite, you’ll feel the gooey softness of the cheese mousse and sink your teeth into their carefully crisp dough. Let it melt in your mouth. Savor it. Nothing exist beyond the divine taste against your tongue. Taste the mouth-watering cheese mousse that only BAKE’s three kinds of cheese can achieve. Devouring your first BAKE cheese tart will only make you come back for more and that’s exactly what we did. We came back and ordered 2 more boxes to bring home! Yes, you can bring them home! 😀 It’s a great souvenir for your friends and easy to carry. However, be sure to give them away fast because since these are cheese tarts, they expire on their 4th day. That’s plenty of time though to indulge yourself or make your friends the happiest people on Earth.
I can’t wait to get my hands on more!
Hope you guys enjoy them as much as I do. 🙂
